Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk (or regular milk)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and cardamom.

  2. 2

In a separate bowl, mix the coconut milk, beaten egg, and warm water.

  3. 3

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix to form a soft dough. Knead on a floured surface for 5-10 minutes until smooth.

  4. 4

Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

  5. 5

Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into triangles or desired shapes.

  6. 6

Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Carefully place a few pieces of dough into the hot oil.

  7. 7

Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and puffed up. Drain on paper towels.

  8. 8

    Serve warm.
